About us

It has been estimated that more than 500.000 tonnes of leather are wasted every year. This result in a 60% of the leather produced not being used and often ending uo in landfills and rivers of our planet, creating a huge environmental problem of leftover leather.

At Soruka we decided not to be part of the problem but part of the solution. We are a young and modern brand, committed to create unique handcrafted leather goods in a sustainable way. We design beautiful bags and accessories.

The result is a beautiful one-of-a-kind handcrafted piece made with the best quality leather and environmentally friendly.

Our mission

We’re in the business of making life better, moving the fashion industry towards a more sustainable approach where success is measured on more than just profit margins. Our mission is to bring you beautiful timeless collections while preserving traditional techniques, while producing sustainable fashion with quality and design.

Our aim is to be a zero waste company and so we try to use every scrap of material. With great effort and joy our artisans select the cutting and the right colors in order to transform waste into a unique piece of art.

The smallest cuttings are used for our small items such as key-chains, bracelets, jewelry and small decorations items that we´re selling in our shop. We are aware that we’re very small in this moment. However, every effort counts and we’re sure that step by step we will contribute to the change needed to close the loop on waste. We believe that conscious fashion is not only possible, but necessary.

Recycled materials
Using recycled materials reduces the need for new material and avoids the waste that comes with conventional manufacturing processes. Recycling is aimed at extending the lifespan of materials and goods we consume and minimizing the flow into landfills.

We find it an amazing challenge to use and to transform useless pieces to useful creations, while contributing to a better future. Our bags are made with recycled leather that has been wasted by factories (scrap and left over leather) and dead stock materials. For us, sustainability means to respect the material using every single part so that nothing goes to the waste. It also means deep respect for all the people involved in its creation and their cultures.

Dead stock materials: left over leather that is no longer useful to companies and is sold off due to various reasons including overstock, not meeting aesthetic requirements, too small in quantity to make on collection or no longer in season. Traditionally, the fashion houses kept their excess material for a few season and later they send it to the landfills. We rescue this dead stock before it is thrown away and give it a new lease of life.

Our artisans
Fair trade is a strategy for poverty alleviation and sustainable development. Its purpose is to create opportunities for producers who have been economically disadvantaged or marginalized by the conventional system.

Our bags are manufactured in India. We work closely with small, independent artisans to help grow their business and production capabilities. The partnership with them is the best method of job creation in low income environments and also a way to preserve generational craftsmanship.

All our artisans are trained adults over 18, who receive beyond fair trade wages.

Hand made
Each and every piece of our collection is made with integrity and kindness by artisans, using traditional techniques, showcasing their expertise and craftsmanship.

Designed in timeless style that will outlive the micro trends and season, every bag is unique and unrepeatable piece of art. The manufacturing process involves little to no machinery, keeping the energy consumption low.

Fair price
Two challenges are created by the traditional retail mode and all the middlemen within it. First of all, consumers often pay more than they should to compensate for mark-ups along the way. Secondly, the more steps and people that exist between you and the original product, the harder it becomes to hold brands accountable for the ethical production of their products.

We work directly with the artisans, foster good relationships with them and take a direct-to consumer approach. This is the reason why we can offer a reasonable price to you while ensuring fair wages for the artisans.
